Director's Statement
I've been working in television doing visual effects for almost 20 years now. So, of course, I wanted to make a film with almost no visual effects! I love storytelling and great acting - and that's what XY is all about.
Though the film hits on some heavy topics, it's also an homage to classic American cinema. Sweeping cinemascope shots (we used old school anamorphic glass, baby!), Classic camera moves, thought-out compositions, and so forth.
I set out to make a movie I would watch, using the techniques and skills I've learned and observed over my years on set.
We hope you enjoy this film. It's a true labor of love that lets its heavy themes just sort of unfold. It's also just a movie about two people in Anywhere, America. A film focused on story and character, truth, and reality.
